Texas Hill Country Regional Christmas Lighting Trail
Tuesday, November 08, 2011
Take a road trip through the Hill Country this winter and you’ll find the historic architecture has undergone a holiday transformation. Traditional 1800s, art deco and more modern structures take on an almost metropolitan feel at night with the newly acquired bright lights of the holidays. Bandera, Blanco, Boerne, Burnet, Dripping Springs, Fredericksburg, Johnson City, Kerrville, Llano, Marble Falls, New Braunfels and Wimberley all participate in this event. Many of these towns also host winter pageants and other festivities.
South Texas Corn MAiZE (September 24-November 27) If you still have a leftover sugar rush from Halloween, spend it getting lost in the South Texas Corn MAiZE in Hondo, Texas. Explore a seven-acre labyrinth of twists, turns and dead ends carved among the cornstalks, plus other activities and food. Remember, calling 9-1-1 because you’re lost in the maze is considered cheating. Please visit www.southtexasmaize.com or call (830) 741-3968 for more information.
Christmas in Comfort (November 26) The Hill Country wastes no time after Thanksgiving to hurry up and decorate for Christmas. Christmas in Comfort is the perfect place to find unique gifts for friends and family. Hundreds of vendors line the streets and High Street, the heart of the Comfort shopping center is shut down and visitors walk down the streets sipping hot apple cider and enjoying the brisk Hill Country weather. Christmas in Comfort culminates in a nighttime parade, with floats decorated with brilliant holiday lights.
Typically referred to by locals as simply “Hunting Season,” there’s much ado from locals about the start of the whitetail deer hunting season. Running through the middle of January for Central Texas, hunting is a huge draw and funnels tens of millions of dollars into the local economy. Head to Bandera, Texas, for that first weekend for Hunters Weekend. All the shops, local eateries and night spots stay open late to greet the incoming hunters.

Holiday Season in the Hill Country There’s no disputing that the November is one of the most beautiful times to visit the Hill Country. Certainly having a white Christmas is an anomaly though not completely unheard of here, the Hill Country’s mild winters draw snowbirds from all over the US. Riven Rock Ranch is lucky to be centrally located in the Hill Country at a juncture of several major highways where it’s an easy road trip to a number of great holiday events . . . some have a Hill Country holiday flair and others are more traditional holiday events, either way, these next few events in are not to be missed.
